How Does Solar Energy Work?

There are two main types of solar power, solar thermal and photovoltaic. Solar thermal uses the sun light's infrared energy to either heat a liquid or to warm a mass of material that will later on release its stored heat.

Nations have battled over energy and natural resources forever. Some believe if we reduce our reliance on resources, such as oil, from other nations, we can reduce the calamities of war. However, the “Green” road may still turn blood red if we don’t prepare for it.
We have many environmentally friendly ways to supply energy such as hydro, wind, solar energy and there are more. We need to prepare for the benefits as well as the obstacles.
Solar energy is a clean source of energy that is very simple to get, but if a tree from someone else’s property blocks the sun how do you handle it? Do you cut the tree, move the solar panels? Who pays for that?
Wind mills seem to generate a lot of controversy on everything from noise to bird killing.
Dams have caused a lot of debates over the years for flooding concerns as well as fish populations being affected. You might think that this is all enough but when you consider that bio fuel plants and car fueling electric stations are becoming more common you can see that there is room for a lot of conflict.
So what do we do to prepare for all this green technology? Some of this is going to be new. We used to pull our energy from the ground. Now it is above ground and in some neighborhoods. If we don’t want the neighborhood fights then we need to shape rules and laws to be as fair as we can.
Check the newer laws on solar and wind rights. The DSIRE site has a list of each state’s rules and regulations. When you buy a piece of property for instance find out if your neighbor has established any solar rights. You may love the forest, but if his solar rights have been established you may not be able to have your trees. As time goes on real estate agents will start to know more about environmental rules but for now check the rules yourself. If you really can’t stand to have your view changed by windmills, find out in advance what the rules are. The best way to maintain a view is to buy all the property included in that view. If you can’t do that then it is subject to change so check the zoning rules to see how it could change and prepare yourself accordingly.
The best way to prepare for change is to understand that it is normal. We are not meant to keep doing what we have been doing. Change is good and it can be hard to accept.
Communication is also a huge part of avoiding conflicts. We have so many ways to communicate but many people are very out of touch. Know what laws and rules are being considered and have some input on how rules and changes to them get done.
There are a lot of changes coming; let’s make them a part of a peaceful future. See this article on homeowners who wanted solar panels vs. the homeowners association that didn’t.

There are many varieties of solar powered water pumps available. Solar powered pumps have a few advantages over traditionally powered pumps. Solar fountain pumps require much less wiring to be buried if any at all. A traditional pump would require wires to be run from the nearest power source to the pump. Solar powered pumps have the power source close by so you may only have to bury a few feet or none at all.
